PHASE 1

NALA PLAYGROUND REOPENING

Nevada Association of Latin Americans Child Care Center

323 N. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas NV 89101

On November 3, 2006 the Southern Nevada Health District did a comprehensive survey of the NALA Child Care Center playground and officially shut it down. The following is the minimum of what must be done to get it reopened. Please keep in mind that this is a temporary solution since much of the equipment will have to be disposed of and can not be replaced in the short time period.

GENERAL PLAYGROUND

  1. We need to have a mason come in and regrout some of the joints in the wall to remove finger entrapment issues.
  2. Also of issue were the existing handrails at the exit doors from the building. We will need to have perforated metal sheeting painted and welded to the outside of the existing handrails. This will eliminate the potential for accidental strangulation.
  3. Lastly we need to install plastic inserts in the existing chain link fence to make it unclimbable. There are also some adjustments required to the existing gate to reduce all open sizes to maximum of 3”.

PLAY EQUIPMENT

We will need to have the existing play structure demolished and removed from the property. This includes all of the concrete foundations. Once removed we can re grade the existing sand to cover the holes and to cover the shade structure bases up to 9”. Now that the play equipment is gone in this area it becomes a level sandy play area.

SWINGS

The support structure for the swings is in good shape. The swings themselves must be removed and destroyed. We can install 1 new toddler swing and 5 new child swings on this structure. We will also have to remove from the property the 3 existing metal toy cars. In addition we will have to cut and demo some of the existing concrete slab to meet the protective use zone requirement.

SHADE ISSUES

  1. The new shade structure was finaled by the SNHD during the inspection on Friday. There only comment was that the column bases must be covered with 9” of sand.
  2. The existing shade structure must be maintained. The wooden cover will need to be sanded and repainted or stained.

With the existing shade structure and the trees they are essentially compliant at this time.

During this inspection we discussed various other issues and options that we will need to address when we submit the plans for the new playground equipment under Phase 2
